Description

By: Honoré de Balzac (1799-1850)

Les comédiens sans le savoir is a delightful and insightful novel by Honoré de Balzac. Set in 19th century France, the story follows a group of actors who are unaware of their true parentage and connections to high society. Balzac masterfully weaves together themes of identity, class, and destiny, creating a gripping narrative that keeps the reader engaged from beginning to end.

The characters are richly drawn and the dialogue is sharp and witty, making for an engaging read. Balzac’s descriptions of the Parisian theater scene are vivid and immersive, painting a vivid picture of the bustling world of the stage. The novel’s exploration of the complexities of social hierarchies and the masks we all wear in society is both thought-provoking and poignant.

Overall, Les comédiens sans le savoir is a captivating novel that offers a fascinating glimpse into the world of 19th century France. Balzac’s keen insight into human nature and his skillful storytelling make this a must-read for fans of classic literature.

Book Description:
MANUAL OF SURGERY, OXFORD MEDICAL PUBLICATIONS
BY ALEXIS THOMSON, F.R.C.S.Ed.
PREFACE TO SIXTH EDITION Much has happened since this Manual was last revised, and many surgical lessons have been learned in the hard school of war. Some may yet have to be unlearned, and others have but little bearing on the problems presented to the civilian surgeon. Save in its broadest principles, the surgery of warfare is a thing apart from the general surgery of civil life, and the exhaustive literature now available on every aspect of it makes it unnecessary that it should receive detailed consideration in a manual for students. In preparing this new edition, therefore, we have endeavoured to incorporate only such additions to our knowledge and resources as our experience leads us to believe will prove of permanent value in civil practice. For the rest, the text has been revised, condensed, and in places rearranged.
