Description

By: D.H. Montgomery

The Beginner’s American History by D.H. Montgomery is a well-written and informative introduction to the history of the United States. The author covers a wide range of topics, from the colonial period to the present day, in a clear and engaging manner.

One of the strengths of the book is its organization. Each chapter focuses on a specific period or event in American history, making it easy for readers to follow along and understand how different events are connected. Additionally, the author provides helpful summaries at the end of each chapter, which reinforce key points and help readers retain the information they have learned.

I also appreciate the author’s use of primary sources throughout the book. By including quotes, letters, and other primary sources, Montgomery brings the history to life and helps readers understand the perspectives of different historical figures.

Overall, The Beginner’s American History is a great resource for anyone looking to learn more about the history of the United States. Whether you are a student studying American history for the first time or just a curious reader, this book is sure to provide valuable insights and deepen your understanding of this fascinating subject.

Book Description:
THE BEGINNER’S AMERICAN HISTORY
By D. H. MONTGOMERY
PREFATORY NOTE.
This little book is intended by the writer as an introduction to his larger work entitled The Leading Facts of American History. It is in no sense an abridgment of the larger history, but is practically an entirely new and distinct work. Its object is to present clearly and accurately those facts and principles in the lives of some of the chief founders and builders of America which would be of interest and value to pupils beginning the study of our history. Throughout the book great care has been taken to relate only such incidents and anecdotes as are believed to rest on unexceptionable authority. The numerous illustrations in the text are, in nearly every case, from drawings and designs made by Miss C. S. King of Boston.
