Description

By: Lewis Carroll

Sylvie and Bruno by Lewis Carroll is a whimsical and enchanting tale that weaves together two parallel storylines, one set in the real world and the other in a fantastical land. The book follows the adventures of the titular characters, Sylvie and Bruno, as they navigate the complexities of human relationships, societal expectations, and the nature of reality itself.

Carroll’s writing is as clever and imaginative as ever, filled with playful wordplay, quirky characters, and thought-provoking philosophical musings. The dialogue is witty and engaging, and the author seamlessly blends humor, satire, and sentimentality throughout the narrative.

While the story may at times feel disjointed or meandering, with its multitude of characters and subplots, Carroll’s knack for storytelling and his keen observations of human nature shine through, making Sylvie and Bruno a captivating and memorable read.

Overall, Sylvie and Bruno is a delightful and thought-provoking book that will appeal to fans of Lewis Carroll’s other works, as well as readers who enjoy clever and imaginative storytelling.

Book Description:

The novel has two main plots; one set in the real world at the time the book was published (the Victorian era), the other in the fantasy world of Fairyland. While the latter plot is a fairytale with many nonsense elements and poems, similar to Carroll’s Alice books, the story set in Victorian Britain is a social novel, with its characters discussing various concepts and aspects of religion, society, philosophy and morality.

This book is the first of two volumes and the two intertwining stories are brought to a close in the second volume, Sylvie and Bruno Concluded.
