Description

By: H. G. Wells (1866-1946)

Anticipations by H.G. Wells explores the future of society and technology, providing a fascinating glimpse into the author’s predictions for the 20th century. Wells delves into topics such as transportation, communication, and education, offering thought-provoking insights and observations on how advancements in these areas will shape the world.

One of the most intriguing aspects of this book is Wells’ ability to foresee the impact of technology on society. His predictions about the rise of automobiles and airplanes, as well as the development of mass communication systems, are remarkably accurate and serve as a testament to his foresight.

Additionally, Wells’ commentary on the evolution of education and the role of women in society is particularly noteworthy. He advocates for a more egalitarian approach to education, as well as a greater recognition of women’s contributions to society, both of which remain relevant and timely topics today.

Overall, Anticipations is a thought-provoking and illuminating read that offers valuable insights into the future of society and technology. Wells’ musings on these subjects are still pertinent today, making this book a must-read for anyone interested in the intersection of science, technology, and society.

Book Description:
Wells considered this book one of his most important, a natural follow-up to such works as his Man of the Year Million and The Time Machine. His goal was to get people to think and act in new ways. The book starts with a look at how humans get along socially and how they carry out their business ventures. It then discusses how these elements influence others, such as politics, the world of work, and education. H. G. tried to make clear how the current social order was disintegrating without preparing another to take its place. He then traced the roots of democracy, which in its present state he saw as unworkable. Instead, he proposed a new republic. He also critiqued modern warfare.
