Description

By: Kate Langley Bosher (1865-1932)

People Like That by Kate Langley Bosher is a thought-provoking novel that delves into the intricacies of societal expectations and the impact they have on individual lives. The story follows the lives of two women, one from a wealthy Southern family and the other from a more humble background, as they navigate the complexities of early 20th-century society.

Bosher’s writing is eloquent and rich, drawing readers into the world of high society and the pressures placed upon individuals to conform to rigid social norms. The characters are well-developed and dynamic, each struggling in their own way to reconcile their desires with the expectations of those around them.

What sets People Like That apart is its exploration of the limitations placed on women during this time period and the ways in which they resist and challenge these constraints. Bosher skillfully weaves themes of class, gender, and identity throughout the novel, making for a compelling and engaging read.

Overall, People Like That is a poignant and insightful novel that shines a light on the struggles faced by women in a society that values appearances above all else. Bosher’s writing is both beautiful and powerful, making this a book that will stay with readers long after they have turned the final page.

Book Description:
A single woman from a family that is well-off, buys a house at a place that is looked down upon and disapproved by her family and friends alike. Her reason – she wants to live the life of and know people like that. (This book’s got one of the cutest romantic endings I’ve ever read). What is surprising is this book is in the PD – there are quite a few modern expressions and comparatively less quaint, out-of-fashion expressions.
