By: Rex Beach (1877-1949)
The Spoilers by Rex Beach is a thrilling adventure novel set in the gold rush era of Alaska. The story follows the main character, Roy Glenister, as he attempts to protect his mining claim from a group of corrupt politicians and businessmen known as “the spoilers.”
The book is filled with action-packed scenes, suspenseful plot twists, and well-developed characters. Beach does a fantastic job of bringing the rugged Alaskan landscape to life, making the reader feel as though they are right there alongside Glenister as he fights to keep what is rightfully his.
While the novel is a bit dated in terms of language and social norms, it still holds up as an entertaining and engaging read. Fans of historical fiction, adventure stories, and tales of justice and redemption will surely enjoy The Spoilers. Overall, I highly recommend this book to anyone looking for a fast-paced and exciting read.
Book Description:
MANUAL OF SURGERY, OXFORD MEDICAL PUBLICATIONS
BY ALEXIS THOMSON, F.R.C.S.Ed.
PREFACE TO SIXTH EDITION Much has happened since this Manual was last revised, and many surgical lessons have been learned in the hard school of war. Some may yet have to be unlearned, and others have but little bearing on the problems presented to the civilian surgeon. Save in its broadest principles, the surgery of warfare is a thing apart from the general surgery of civil life, and the exhaustive literature now available on every aspect of it makes it unnecessary that it should receive detailed consideration in a manual for students. In preparing this new edition, therefore, we have endeavoured to incorporate only such additions to our knowledge and resources as our experience leads us to believe will prove of permanent value in civil practice. For the rest, the text has been revised, condensed, and in places rearranged.
