By: Harry Leon Wilson (1867-1939)

Merton of the Movies is a delightful, humorous novel that takes readers back to the early days of silent film in Hollywood. The story follows Merton Gill, a small-town dreamer who heads to Los Angeles with visions of becoming a famous actor. However, Merton quickly realizes that the harsh realities of the movie industry are far from his romanticized dreams.

The characters in the novel are well-developed and quirky, each with their own quirks and flaws that make them relatable and endearing. Merton himself is a lovable protagonist, with his naivety and determination making him a sympathetic figure. The interactions between the characters are often hilarious, providing many laugh-out-loud moments throughout the book.

Harry Leon Wilson’s writing style is engaging and easy to follow, making the novel a quick and enjoyable read. The author’s attention to detail in recreating the golden age of Hollywood adds an extra layer of charm to the story, immersing readers in the glitz and glamour of the era.

Overall, Merton of the Movies is a charming and entertaining read that will appeal to fans of classic Hollywood films and anyone looking for a light-hearted and enjoyable story. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a fun and engaging read.
